It is common to judge the complexity of a biome from the perspective of its fauna and flora, but it is the water the key element for maintaining biodiversity.

And if water is essential to maintain alive a biome such as the Atlantic forest, the forest plays a vital role sustaining the hydrological processes that ensures the quality and volume of the water courses.

In addition to being crossed by the rivers Grande, Frio / Roncador and small streams such as the Santana, there is at Fazenda Soledade an expressive number of active springs that are preserved by maintaining intact and protecting the vegetation in their vicinity.

"The altitude of the springs ensures the purity of the waters.  With the preservation of the forest it is guaranteed plenty of water in the springs. "
